Four Winds makes some of the finest beers in BC (has anyone seen the twitter love for Nectarous recently?). Steel and Oak make some of the best beer in BC, together they must make THE BEST BEER IN BC! …or not quite. Now before I go any further you might ask “what is gratzer?” well i was going to make this a long post explaining this but i think Moody Ales (who actually do gratzer i quite like) has done a great blog post explaining grazer better than I could. So that said the funny thing about this style is no one really knows what it should taste like, (BJCP guidelines be damned!) so although i can tell you what i think i don’t have any style or tasting notes to compare it against. I am simply telling you what I think. That said what did I think? It pours darker than Moody Ales Gratzer with a smokey aroma. Upon my first sip I taste deep fried teriyaki flavour with a hint of sour in the finish followed by a hint of smoke. The Teriyaki flavour passed but the smoke and sour were just whispers against a really quite boring beer. Steel and Oak & Four Winds Smoke and Sour Gratzer- 2.5/5
So funny. Everyone that has blogged this has come out with 100% different notes although pretty much the same determination in the end.

I feel like it was a first attempt or didn’t scale from the pilot the smoke and sour were severely underpowered.

Having my first sour and I am disappointed. Driftwood, Belle Royale, sour cherry wild ale. it’s cough syrup 😦 Disappointed because I have a taste for things sour.
