NOT AN IPA… that is how i would describe this beer. Its too bad that Minhas Creek (from Manitoba, this beer was a gift) decided to call this beer a “Double IPA” because… well its not. Despite the label proclaiming 75 IBU’s i couldn’t detect more than 30 (not that i have an internal IBU detector or anything, seriously i don’t) The malts are noticible and the overall sweetness of the beer makes me wonder if honey malts were part of the grain bill. The nose is crisp and sweet and through the middle the malt flows into the melon-y (amarillo hops perhaps?) hops. It finishes with a melony yeasty flavour that lingers for a while. If this beer was labeled a belgian strong i’d probably rate it higher, but its not, so i won’t.
